Annual Enrollment Period Update

October 15 – December 7
This is Loran Marmes with We Know Medicare. I have put together a short Annual Enrollment update to explain what you need to review this year and whether you need to take any action.
Loran Marmes, Medicare Specialist

Please start with the Annual Enrollment Update video below.

It explains what Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, and Part D clients need to know this year.

If you need to compare Part D prescription drug plans, you will also find a separate step-by-step Medicare.gov video farther down this page.

Don't Recognize My Name?

I merged my Medicare business with We Know Medicare and took over service for several existing books of Medicare clients. If you previously worked with another agent, that may be why you are now receiving this update from me.

I have been helping people with Medicare for 17 years, and I briefly explain the transition in the video below.

Watch the Annual Enrollment Update

Please watch this video before making changes or scheduling an appointment. It explains what applies to your type of Medicare coverage and what you should review first.

Step 1

Review Your Plan Notice

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D prescription drug plan, you should have received, or will soon receive, a notice in the mail from your current plan explaining the changes for the upcoming year.

This is your Annual Notice of Change, often called your ANOC.

It explains changes to your current plan that may include premiums, copays, deductibles, prescription coverage, pharmacies, doctors, provider networks, or other benefits.

Medicare Supplement policies are different.

You do not receive an Annual Notice of Change for a Medicare Supplement policy.
If you are comfortable with the changes to your current Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, there may be nothing you need to do during Annual Enrollment.
Medicare Advantage clients: Several insurance companies have announced that they are reducing or ending certain Medicare Advantage plans in some counties and service areas for the upcoming year.

That does not mean your plan is necessarily going away. Your ANOC tells you what is happening with your specific Medicare Advantage plan.
Step 2

Do You Need to Make a Change?

Not everyone needs to change plans during Annual Enrollment. Use the two sections below as a quick guide.

You May Not Need to Do Anything

  • You have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan and reviewed the changes in your ANOC.
  • You are comfortable with those changes.
  • Your prescriptions or healthcare needs have not changed in a way that concerns you.
  • You have a Medicare Supplement you are happy with and only need to review your Part D prescription drug coverage.

Take a Closer Look If...

  • Your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan tells you it is ending.
  • Your premium, copays, benefits, drug coverage, pharmacy, doctors, or provider network changed.
  • You started taking new prescriptions or your medications changed.
  • You are thinking about leaving your Medicare Supplement and moving to a Medicare Advantage plan.
  • Something in your plan notice concerns you or you are simply not comfortable with the changes.
Step 3

Need to Compare Part D Plans?

If you need to compare Part D prescription drug plans, please watch the step-by-step Medicare.gov video below before scheduling an appointment.

The video shows you how to use the Medicare.gov Plan Finder without logging into a personal Medicare account.

It also explains how to enter your prescriptions correctly, choose pharmacies, compare plan costs, and what to do if you decide to stay with the plan you already have.

Important: When using Medicare.gov, enter the exact medication, dosage, quantity, and form you take. A tablet, capsule, extended-release version, or different dosage can produce very different results.
Step 4

Still Need My Help?

If you have reviewed your plan notice and the information above and you are still confused, uncomfortable with the changes, or need help making a decision, please schedule an Annual Enrollment Review.

You should also schedule an appointment if your plan is ending, you have changes that concern you, your prescriptions have changed, or you are considering moving from a Medicare Supplement to a Medicare Advantage plan.
